English and English Literature Combined Coursework
We have carefully designed our English and English Literature GCSE course packs so that the student gets the benefit of the overlap between the two courses essentially doing the work for one and a half GCSEs to get the two qualifications. Please click here for more information.
The Syllabus
This course prepares students for AQA GCSE English syllabus 3703b for examination in 2010 and 2011. We have chosen this syllabus as it is the most suited to distance learning/home schooling.
It is important to note that this syllabus is designed for adults. As such candidates may be asked in the exam to comment on pieces of writing of a more adult nature such as relationships or finance. Oxford Home Schooling do not believe that any Home Schooling Student has been disadvantaged by this. Some students may be better suited to OHS's IGCSE English course.
Assessment
Assessment is by two written papers(60%), an Oral examination (20%) and coursework(20%).
Oral Examination
20% of the assessment is by an oral examination. These examinations are held at regional examination centres rather than at your examination centre. The location of these centres is controlled by the examination board. There were 20 regional centres in 2008. Please discuss this with your Student Adviser if you would like further information.
Coursework
Exact coursework requirements depend on which year you are aiming for but include pieces of personal writing and essays on literary texts. Full details can be found within the home schooling course and you tutor will give you suitable assistance.
