AQA GCSE Psychology is assessed through two written examination papers. Each paper contains four topic sections and includes multiple-choice questions, short answers and extended writing.

No. There is no coursework component. However, practical research skills and knowledge of research methods are assessed in the written examinations.
Will I conduct psychological research?
The specification expects students to develop experience of designing, conducting and analysing ethical, informal psychological research.
Activities must respect informed consent, privacy, minimisation of harm, appropriate debriefing and other ethical principles.
Does Psychology involve Maths?
Some mathematical and data-handling skills are required. These include ratios, percentages, arithmetic means, median, mode, range, tables, graphs, histograms and scatter diagrams.
Correlation formulae do not need to be calculated.
Do I need to remember named psychological studies?
Yes. The specification includes named studies linked to particular theories and topics. You need to understand what these studies found and how they support, challenge or illustrate the associated psychological ideas.
How are Tutor-marked Assignments used?
The course contains ten Tutor-marked Assignments, usually placed at the end of a module. Marking can be purchased when you want detailed feedback on your answers and examination technique.
What types of questions appear in the examinations?
Both papers contain multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions and extended writing. You may need to recall knowledge, apply ideas to new situations and evaluate theories or research.
What can I study after GCSE Psychology?
The course develops useful preparation for A-level Psychology and related subjects involving research, behaviour, health, education or social science.
