Yes. There are no fixed term dates, so you can enrol and begin studying when it suits you, then work through the course at a pace that fits your home education timetable.

Do I need to have completed the Year 7 course first?

No. The course is designed for Year 8 English study in its own right. Students who completed the Oxford Home Schooling Year 7 course will recognise some skills in the starter activities, but these are developed further during Year 8.

How is the course structured?

The course contains 30 lessons arranged across six modules, covering literary non-fiction, Holes, The Snake-Stone, poetry, media and persuasive writing, and Spilled Water.

Does the Year 8 English course have an exam?

No. Key Stage 3 is not an external examination course. Progress is checked through lesson activities, self-assessment and Tutor-marked Assignments completed throughout the course.

Do I need to buy any books?

Yes. The required supporting texts are Louis Sachar’s Holes, Berlie Doherty’s The Snake-Stone, One Hundred Years of Poetry for Children and Sally Grindley’s Spilled Water.

How many Tutor-marked Assignments are there?

There are 10 Tutor-marked Assignments across the six modules. They provide regular opportunities for students to demonstrate what they have learned and monitor their progress.

Is tutor marking included in the subscription?

The course materials include all 10 Tutor-marked Assignments. Tutor marking is purchased separately, so you can add marking for individual assignments or purchase a marking bundle when it would be useful.
