What you’ll study
The Year 7 course contains 26 structured lessons across four modules. Students begin with personal language and everyday communication before moving into school, family, home and town, followed by a dedicated programme of revision.
Vocabulary and grammar are introduced through practical everyday topics, with regular opportunities to reuse earlier language before five dedicated revision lessons consolidate the whole year.
Assessment and progress
Progress is developed and checked through lesson activities, self-assessment and eight tutor-marked assignments. Students demonstrate both written and spoken Spanish, while the final assessment draws together language learned throughout the year.
Regular assessment
TMAs A–G appear throughout the course and provide regular opportunities to demonstrate vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and communication skills.
End-of-year assessment
The final assignment follows a dedicated revision module and gives students an opportunity to demonstrate language developed throughout Year 7.
Speaking
The final part of each TMA includes a speaking exercise, giving students regular opportunities to use Spanish aloud.
Self-assessment
Short activities and end-of-lesson self-assessment help students identify what they understand and what needs more practice.
Language development
Students gradually build a larger vocabulary while learning grammatical structures needed to express themselves accurately.
Communication
Progress is not simply about remembering words: students increasingly combine language to communicate their own ideas.
Building language skills
Year 7 establishes core vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing skills that students can continue to develop through Years 8 and 9 and towards GCSE.
