Bookish Delights For The Autumn I Oxford Open Learning

    Bookish Delights For The Autumn

As the nights draw in and we move headlong into autumn, there is nothing like curling up with a good book. This time of year is very popular for books to be published – particularly in the run-up to Christmas, when booksellers hope to make money on lots of titles. But what if you want to go out and about, to hear about books – and all things book-related – elsewhere? Well, in the UK, we are spoilt for choice, really, so let’s have a look at some of the things on offer. Links to the respective festival sites are also given.

Cheltenham Book Festival: This Friday, 7th, to 16 October, 2022

The beautiful Regency town of Cheltenham is home to a number of festivals and the autumn offering is all about literature. What more could you want? If Manga is your thing, you could buy a ticket to a workshop. You might prefer a talk about two writers who write together – this time, the focus is on fantasy rom-coms! Essentially, Cheltenham is one of the behemoth literature festivals the UK is proud of – and rightly so! There are lots of big names who appear over a 9-day period, and there is definitely something for everyone.

    StoryTown Festival: 15-16 October, 2022

The StoryTown festival, in Corsham, Wiltshire, is a much smaller affair – but still offers some great stuff! You might come along to a wonderful session led by Alex Cotter, who will be talking about her second novel, The Mermaid Call. If you prefer an online offering, Helen Fisher will share her experiences of writing best-sellers alongside the ins and outs of the publishing industry – definitely one for budding writers. Corsham is well worth a visit, and is close to the lovely city of Bath – you could also get involved in one of its trails, or find out more about a poetry competition with great prizes.

London Literature Festival: 20-23 October, 2022

If you live close to our magnificent capital city, the 15th year of this festival is one to go along to. There are many workshops and talks, including an exclusive event with Adam B, Blue Peter presenter, who will be discussing his debut children’s book, Adam Wins the Internet. A lot of the events take place over the autumn holiday, too, meaning you can while away some time on the banks of the River Thames, enjoying many bookish treats!

So, what are you waiting for? Go online and see what takes your fancy. Autumn is the perfect time to indulge your love of books – so take advantage of some wonderful offerings and enjoy.
